Below is a list of links to products I use and would recommend to you.

  1. GrowYourOwn - GrowYourOwn magazine
I have been subscribed to this magazine for a few years now and would recommend it to anyone starting out in their garden or allotment. It mainly focuses on fruit & veg, which makes sense but it includes other tips that are more general (e.g. pest control, pruning). Aside from the useful information, this subscription gives me 90% of the seeds I use each year and definitely pays for itself.
  2. Seedling tray - 84 cell plant tray
I got this recommendation from Charles Dowding and I agree that these trays are excellent. They are sturdy and have a larger hole in the bottom for drainage and easy removal of module. It’s not quite large enough for a finder but the end of a wooden spoon works for me. They are thicker than the cheaply versions and not so wobbly. They also fit nicely on a grow tent shelf.
  3. GrowZone Greenhouse - GrowZone Max Greenhouse
I like to get my seedlings going in a greenhouse tent as it keeps the temperature more stable, less damage from wind and it keeps the bugs off. It also means I don’t have to keep bending over to water them. I prefer the square top to the GrowZone greenhouse, rather than rounded, because seedlings are damaged less when you remove them from the top shelf.
  4. Meadow Hay mulch - Pillow Wad Maxi Meadow Hay - Pack of 3
You should definitely try to source mulch locally if you have the chance. My recommendation would be to make friends with someone who works at a stables or who looks after a horse, they get hay for very cheap. If you are not in an area where this is an option, this meadow hay comes in a pack of three and easily covers all of my raised beds. It’s almost 12kg of hay for pretty cheap.
  5. Gardening journal - Garden Journal. Gardening planner and log book
I’ve recommended this journal to lots of people now, and it makes a nice gift too. Each page allows you to fill in the water requirements, suitable sunlight and key dates for any plant you have in the garden. I use it to keep track of what tasks are needed during each season, to log how large a new planted plant will grow to and what colour it is at different times of the year.
  6. Slug traps - Beer slug and snail traps
Slugs are, by far, the biggest pest in our garden. I have tried a couple of different types of beer trap and they have all worked very well. This one is my preferred because it has a little cap which means you can water the area without affecting the the traps. They also look a bit neater as they are mostly buried.
